In her lecture, Charmaine Poh explores the themes “Devotion/Disappearance”and offers insights into the intellectual and aesthetic paths she has pursued in her artistic practice over the past five years. She offers a glimpse into her latest works, which were presented in her first institutional solo exhibition titled “Make a travel deep of your inside, and don’t forget me to take” at the PalaisPopulaire in Berlin in 2025 and will be on view starting in September 2026 at the MUDEC in Milan as part of the “Deutsche Bank Artist of the Year” award. The exhibition features videos, photographs, and objects. Under the guiding theme
“Devotion/Disappearance,” she explores how marginalized figures perceived as female (femme figures) have developed strategies of opacity and withdrawal while simultaneously asserting their existence. The protagonists defy simple categorization: They navigate the realms of myth, history, and the digital present, while remaining deeply rooted in the multifaceted contexts of Singapore and its regional diaspora.
