artist talk⎮Marco Schuler

Saturday May 4th, 2024, 4pm–5pm

Annette Vogel heads the Museum Penzberg-Sammlung Campendonk and is curator of the ADAC's (Munich) corporate collection. She has accompanied Marco Schuler's work for 20 years.

Schuler implements the topics that accompany us every day in the media with borrowings from comic/youth language or simplified emotional expressions in strong colors. Schuler continues the appropriation and exploitation of popular culture; he works with cartoons, comic heroes and myths and chooses humor and ironic distance in order to critically question profound topics in politics and society.

Schuler has been working and exhibiting regularly in Los Angeles/USA for over 20 years, inspired by early USA scholarships, such as the 2022 DAAD project scholarship and the 2007 travel scholarship from the Bavarian state. His last two LA residencies at the invitation of "Tropical Berlin" took place in February and July 2023 and will culminate in a solo exhibition in Los Angeles at the end of 2024.
