"The way of creating meaning through narration, interpretation and through taking control over a narrative interests me. Looking into archeology and anthropology as well as contemporary sociological phenomenons and psychology often becomes a crucial part of creating my art works and imbedding them into a meaningful context.
So often the societal as well as individually biographical tendency of positioning, of rooting oneself in a story which one tells oneself is, what directly translates into my artworks.
The notion of the broader societal level being reflected is found as a starting point in Hindsighting. The series of sculptures are replicas of historical/archeological objects and take inspiration from the contexts of museum shops, souvenirs, and storytelling in historical retrospect through the objects that have survived through time. The loss of the multi dimensional view (here also achieved quite figuratively in the two plates that are put together), e.g. through the transformation into souvenirs or through the process of forgetting plays just as much a role as the changing view of the historical, caused by current social values.
On the other hand, the individual level of such processes is, what formed the beginning of the series Intricate outlines. It consists of agate beads. Agate is a stone that is said to have healing and strengthening abilities. Here in this eternal self-circumnavigation, it is a work that deals with the question of sense-making. The way in which spiritual concepts are often able to do just that: to create meaning, to give support and in turn to create the desire for a sense of place and security in a situation of feared emptiness. It is a work that also deals with positioning, with the objects that we charge with meaning and with the diversity of individual realities that arise from this while all within the context of continuity and a society in change.
Eventually, what these two sculptural series convey is the continued relation of the individual to its surrounding society, the need for the feeling of self-efficacy and control, and the transitioning of the societal into the intimate and vice versa." Maximilian Schröder
