Marco Schuler
Marco Schuler (* 1972) is a German artist who works in the media of video, sculpture and painting.\
Marco Schuler first studied philosophy in 1993, then moved to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1994 to study sculpture under object artist Olaf Metzel. In 1995 he was involved in the group project München liegt am Meer. In 1996 he was awarded a prize in the small sculpture competition organised by the Mainz broadcaster ZDF. In 1998 he became a master student of Prof. Olaf Metzel and taught as his artistic assistant at the academy between 2003-2009. He was quickly honoured with scholarships, such as the Villa Arson in Nice in 1999 and a project scholarship from the Steiner Foundation in Munich in 2000. After receiving his diploma in 2001, his first solo exhibitions took place in 2002. In 2002 (DAAD project grant for Los Angeles) and 2003 he was also supported by grants and studio scholarships. In 2004 he received the Bavarian Art Promotion Prize for Fine Arts, in 2005 the Art Prize for Sculpture and Small Sculpture from the city of Bühl, in 2007 a travel grant from the state of Bavaria for a further stay in Los Angeles and in 2009 an artist residency in Krems an der Donau. He also received the Upper Rhine Media Art Prize, awarded for the third time in 2009 by the Freiburg media art association artforum3. He has been teaching seminars on art in architecture/interdisciplinary projects at the hKDM Freiburg since 2019. In 2023 there were two work residencies February/July "Tropical Berlin", Los Angeles, USA.
