"I try to open up a space in which hesitation and doubt or longing are not negative attributes, but are normalised. A space where a character's reality is not entirely and solely within the confines of the skin, but everywhere or nowhere. The determination to doubt, to search for safety in uncertainty and to tentatively long for oneself."
Emil Urbanek (*2000)
Emil Urbanek lives and works in Berlin and has been studying painting at Udk Fine Arts in the class of Thomas Zipp since 2019.

GALLERY WEEKEND BERLIN // EIGEN + ART LAB
"With Elsa Rouy and Emil Urbanek, the EIGEN + ART Lab brings together two young and already strong positions for a joint exhibition. (...) There is no doubt that the new era of figurative painting has dawned - it is alive and open as never before. (...) There is something ephemeral and heavy about Emil Urbanek's subtle but undeniable boldness: the figures and shapes fill the canvases, even the surrounding space is alive with shapes and shadows, and they demand time and attention in a way that like only painting in the right hands can."
